"Decision of the 22nd Council of our Holy Synod: about the break of communion with the Bulgarian Synod, sub Metropolitan Gervasii.

In Avlona 26th of November at 2 p.m. in the Synodical House of Holy Convent of Theogennitoros, the Holy Metropolitan Synod of Patristic Calendar, G.O.C. Greece came to council.

Theme: THE BREAK OF COMMUNION WITH THE BULGARIAN SYNOD OF METROPOLITAN GERVASII.

There were: His Beatitude the President of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan of Avlona and Viotia mgr Angelos. The Representative of His Holiness the Archibishop of Moscow and Metropolitan of all the Russias, mgr Rafail's, Chief Secretary of the Russian Orthodox Synod, Bishop of Kalumen mr Daniel. His Eminence the Metropolitan of Equador and Latin America, mr Chrysostomos. The Head Secretary of our Holy Synod, Bishop of Martyropolis mr Porfyrios. The Vicar Bishop of Pamfylia Gabriel. The Vicar Bishop of Vithynia Cheruvim. The Synodical Archimandrite fr Kleopas. The Record-keeper Archimandrite Agafangel. The Synod had the written authorisation and vote of the absent Metropolitan of Abhazia Iotam, Metropolitan of Tbilisi Christafor and Bishop of Lougdounum Jean.

His Beatitude the President, explained the situation to the rest of Hierarchs, saying:

"There is a severe scandal, caused by pornographic photos throughout the Internet, about the Bulgarian Metropolitan Damaskin Dukov (who became Metropolitan by cheating and lying). We were heavily shocked! Since the late September we had warned him that this is outrageous for an Orthodox Bishop and we wrote three epistles, asking for expanations. We also sent these epistles to M. Gervasii, saying that we cannot tolerate Bishops-in-Communion to act like them, living an immoral life and scandalize the faithfuls. As the matter was far very serious, we shared our concern with His Holiness, Metropolitan Rafail, when we visited him on October. By then, we decided to stop the commemorate of Gervasii and to declare his Synod outside of our Communion. We already published to Internet that we broke Communion with Gervasii and now we are here to decide officially about the matter".

Afterwards, Chief Secretary Bishop of Kalumen Daniel, expressing the opinion of His Holiness Metropolitan Rafail, said that our Russian brothers agree absolutely to break this Communion.

The rest of the Hierarchs voted in favor of breaking the Communion with the Bulgarians and condemned the actions of the Bulgarian Metropolitans as well as the fact that they never gave any explanation.

Thus, we unanimously decide and declare the following:

WE, THE HIERARCHS THAT CONSIST THE HOLY METROPOLITAN SYNOD OF PATRISTIC CALENDAR, G.O.C. GREECE, OFFICIALLY BREAK THE COMMUNION WITH THE BULGARIAN SYNOD OF METROPOLITAN GERVASII, AS WE ALREADY HAVE STOPPED HIS COMMEMORATE.

WE ALSO ASK FROM HIS HOLINESS THE ARCHIBISHOP OF MOSCOW AND METROPOLITAN OF ALL RUSSIAS RAFAIL, TO MAKE DOCUMENT DECLARING THIS BREAK OF COMMUNION FOR CANONICAL REASONS".
